What Is Compassion?
Buddhist texts are very aware of that you can spin out into nihilism. If you keep this grounding of compassion, it'll kind of keep you oriented towards relieving the sufferings of others. The most prominent metaphor or model for that passion is a mother's attachment to her only child. But they say if we had that for all sentient beings, then we would achieve another level of compassion.
