Tom Holland is a well-known author of historical literature here in the UK. He co-hosts a huge history podcast called The Rest Is History that's listened to around the world. His childhood faith had fizzled out by his teenage years, and he grew up essentially a sort of secular agnostic assuming that civilized culture was just what came from the Enlightenment. It was only when he started a career writing books investigating the world of the Greeks and the Romans that he suddenly began to encounter just how alien those cultures were to his way of thinking.
