As far as Gildus was concerned the Saxons make the picks look like mother to racer, making them to wolves, dogs, lions and savage beasts. But at last the British found their own leader, a man called Ambrosius or Raylianus who defeated the Saxons in a massive battle on Momsbadonicus. This is a story which has proved very resilient and was picked up in large part by the second of our major sources for the period, Bead.
