The Rise of Menstrual Blood in Advertising
Art historian Camilla Rotsvig has studied the use of menstrual blood in art. She says it's an invitation to rethink our habits and question these things that have become normalised. In 1971, a photograph, red flag, was composed by artist Judy Chicago. The image is considered one of the first textual, critical artwork about menstruation. But unlike Adverts, you have to seek this image out. It's not being pushed at you like an advert might be.
