In one of the gospels it says he gave up the ghost. I like to emphasize with my students that he said, no man takeeth my life from me. This was a willing sacrifice. It also helps us not to try to play some sort of a who's really at fault or a blame game because we needed him to die for us too. We would do well to remember that as Isaiah prophesied, he is a man of sorrow. He knows deep, deep pain and he suffered grief and pain."
