The Importance of Being Respected

It's very tempting to emulate the effective teachers that you see around you. Maybe even you emulate them on a subconscious level. I wanted to be respected like Mrs. Jones was, so I started being more strict with my kids. If I wasn't sure whether to let a behavior slide or not, I'd think to myself, what would Mrs. Jones do? And I would always end up airing on the side of being overly harsh.
