Patent Number 7339900 - The Only Software Patent on Record That Features a Poem
US patent number 7339900 is one of many patented breakthroughs that have long been neglected by the very people who benefit from them. Perelman got a taste of programming in her high school years, when a teacher encouraged her to take an outside class on computer science at the Stevens Institute of Technology. While software became a field dominated by men in the 80s and 90s, now thankfully trending back towards a more gender diverse mix. Many influential early programmers in the 1960s were women like Grace Hopper, creator of the Cobol programming language.
