A less stressful less rushed way of doing this would just be to get your wait list hold so that you're not constrained by this three-day hold period that you requested over the phone because with the wait list hold you have all the way up until two weeks before the departure date to make all of these changes. If you don't have to call within that three-day window, then you can skip that call entirely and just wait until your actual return flight award is available for booking  and call then and insert all of your flights that you need at that time in one go.
