Has the patriarchal family always been a feature of human society? I wanted to go a bit further back and look at where Engels got his ideas from. He based himself on the book, Ancient Society by the American anthropologist Morgan. And what he discovered was that there were different forms of the family in the course of the development of human society. There's plenty of evidence, even archaeological evidence, which shows that in the ancient Hebrews, very, very far back, God had a wife.
