The elders are trying to narrow it down to one guy among themselves who they'll then begin having conversations with. They're asking more for references from people they know than trust and they are from anonymous job boards. And that one guy does not have to have a PhD, you know, so if you're a church and one of those requires a PhD, I would really discourage from doing that. There's nothing in the Bible that requires that. What you want is a brother who knows the word, who meets the biblical qualifications for elders," he says.
