The Illusion of Nationalism in Iceland

In the early 2000s, a new left showed up adding to Iceland's political debate. The perception that Iceland was a country with great social equality was beginning to fade as top earners were leaving the general public in the dust. Left wing criticism of neoliberal policies led to more social inequality and a weakened welfare state. In 2006, a government appointed committee concluded things would continue to be awesome if the state authorities created a fruitful environment for financial business.
