The Difference Between Consciousness and Sentience

A lot of people in philosophy use these two terms interchangeably. When people draw a distinction, generally they think that consciousness is perhaps a slightly higher bar and slightly more sophisticated capacity. So sentience would just be the capacity to experience valence states such as pleasure and pain. But I personally prefer to just talk about consciousness broadly speaking as a single thing without distinction of sentient consciousness. This whole discussion has been set up because Blake Lamine made a lot of baseless claims based on his interactions with the model.
