The sumptuary law is very much focused in henry's reign on the landed hierarchy. So this means that merchants, for instance, aren't really covered by it. In an urban context, it's where it would have been harder to enforce. But yes, you get the sense that people ware aware of what they were supposed to be wearing. O they are dressing to impress. They are trying to carry off a higher status than they actually have. Yes. And of course, i think one of the other things that's worth treshing here is that with the legislation that henry passes, the legislation applies to men, not to women.
