The Three Narratives of China Threat to Australia
The aid budget is a convenient bucket of money and a way to generate access and influence for a country like Australia. Some fear the China debate will securitise aid to such a degree as to render it ineffective. They would prefer to see countries like Australia playing by the international agreed norms of sustainable development. And they will be very suspicious about Australia's capability to be tying national interest to a poverty reduction agenda for aid and development.
