The Caulk Patch Kid Riots of 1983
The cabbage patch kids came out in the fall of 1983. Kids were screaming for these toys and no parent wanted to be the one that didn't deliver come Christmas time. It's a pretty unique situation as it really was the quality and uniqueness of the toy that drove the craze. There wasn't any internet or blogs or Amazon reviews or YouTube videos that could create a false sense of demand, which many manufacturers still do today.
