Did the ancient Greeks really view themselves as children, compared to the Egyptians, and other Mediterranean civilizations? Well, the short answer here is yes, but it's a fairly complicated yes. The highly developed Greek civilization in the Classical Period was a relatively new affair because of the Aegean Civilizational Collapse which had occurred between roughly 1200 and 900 BCE.
