I thought maybe he would have some sort of plan for his lineage to continue. And I was surprised that that didn't happen. When you have a teacher who's really, really strong, like Suzuki Roshi was, it's easy for his presence to linger in the community long after he's gone. But there is this tendency when you have a really strong teacher to just kind of like, keep the thing going that the teacher started and all the people get together. You got to let him die. Something seriously has to die, fall into the earth, dissolve so that new can be born.
