Confederate Rams and the Battle of Memphis
Union rams, as we saw in the battle of memphis in june 18 62, destroyed a lot of confederate vessels. The most important thing in this war is that the union had aggressive commanders so they were able to strike on the rivers before the confederacy had time to organize and build. It was very different in the west in general, both on the rivers and on land, the united states navy and army co operating very effectively. In this case, took new orleans, the key city, a little over a year into the war. And that that was a pretty bad blow to the confederates.
