The History of Abortion

Abortion was legal from the founding of the country up until the 18 fifties and 18 sixties, when states started to pass prohibition. Doctors were able to get traction in that period after the civil war because the birth rate had actual dropped. And effective contraceptives were not really available until the mid sixties. They weren't didn't become legal all over the country till 19 72. The ruling elite was freaking out about the long baby boom - blaming it for crime,. overcrowding in the cities, popular rebellions going on. So they were divided about whether abortion should be legal. This was the moment that the women's liberation was able to make, the movement for free abortion on demand
