Indian mathematicians were the first, as far as we can tell, to treat zero as its own number. He was way ahead of his time in thinking about the arithmetic with positive negative numbers,. centuries before they'd even arrive in europe. In our modern math, we think it should be undefined - which is a whole another conversation.
