Yaya's Resistance to Language
Yaya begins his life in a house he sort of refers to as the mother's house. A place where women have ended up either as a place of refuge or a place to stay before they move on. It becomes clear that Yaya's resistance is at that linguistic level, is literally cut off, is tongue. But he also creates a division between himself and the listener. He refers to your literature, Mr. Your England and so on, as if to deny his place.
