What's the Origin of the Combine Harvester?

When you do harvesting and crop, there was a word that sounded very like crop in what you were using just then. It goes back to an anglo saxon word meaning the head or the top of a plant. And it's got so many different senses crop that i can't begin to go on to all of them. To winnow is lovely, actually. It means to kind of pear down. And it comes from an old english word meaning to wind.
