When i was 16, on my birthday, he gifted me an old book of his. It's a very personal book on tracy and hepburn, written by one of their closest friends. And it strikes me that i never actually sat with him and discussed old films with him. But this did provide me a window into the things that he might have been interested in as well. With my mother, it was a different relationship to the much, much closer, much more long lasting relationship some of my movie love came from her. She would insist on the song being played all the way through, no matter how tuneless it was. At the same time she also had memories of holywood
