Sometimes language models make the same types of mistakes that humans make. It's more like it's learned some kind of like broader association. I think the difficulty here is in navigating the tension between trying to really understand a given model very deeply versus the fact that a lot of the things that work for one particular model are going to be less relevant to future models. And it feels quite tricky to figure out how to extract generalizable principles from studying our current best models when they're getting better so quickly.
