Aristotle's Prime Matter Accounts for Substantial Change
Aristotle: There's got to be something that accounts for continuity in substantial change. And this thing that accounts forcontinuity in substantial change is what Aristotle calls prime matter. Prime matter is the capacity a substance has to lose the substantial form it has and gain a new substantial form and thereby turn it to something completely different. So again, prime matter is this underlying subject. It's the ability I have to turn into a bunch of chemicals or again, I'm not sure oxygen is a substance but let's just say for the sake of the argument,oxy is a substance.
