The Difference Between Mix and Mix In

Four out of five cocaine overdose deaths in New York were due to fentanyl. Testing strips can save lives if they're used to detect fentanyl mixed into cocaine. But the testing strips are illegal so it's hard for people to get them. Today's expression is a phrasal verb to mix in. This is a close cousin to the word mix. If you're making a cocktail, pay attention. You might mix three ingredients but when you combine them together, you have something new: cake batter.
