In 1953, British physician Katharina Dalton argued that the condition came from fluctuation of estrogen and progesterone. She called it pre-menstrual syndrome; soon symptoms grew to include anxiety, sadness, moodiness, constipation, or diarrhea. No conclusive correlation has ever been found between estrogen or progesterone levels and PMS. There are no biomarkers to measure them by.
