Are You Under the Power of a State?

In most societies, after they've got their state, people feel like they gave up something important. Something changes in your relationship to power as well when you're under the power of a state. This isn't just some random repproation of an old value system. In america's cities, you've got whole populations of people who don't live inside the borders of these states. They feel disfranchised for them that they don't have a secure relationship to state institutions. But actually, you don't even have to look at failed or failing states to see this at work right here.
