Otis Reading and Jenny Jenkins

Otis Reading was signed to Stax by Jim Stewart and Joe Gulkham. He didn't even realise he was signing a proper contract, because he was just used to signing whatever bit of paper was put in front of him at the time. Jenny Jenkins remained sent to Wolden's agency, which quickly grew to represent almost every big soul star that wasn't sent to Motown. She would play guitar on several future Otis Reading sessions, but would hold a grudge against Reading for the rest of his life. And would be one of the few people to have anything negative to say about Reading after his early death.
