The Culture of Performance in Lesbos
She's not a traveling poet like the later male poets for example. She would have been performing really various places on the island of Lesbos. We also can tell from her poetry that there were other women that were also performing. So even though it sounds like diary or journal, it's all performed to an eager audience that wants to hear them.
