Beethoven's Early Symphonies
Beethoven's early symphonies sound like Haydn, but on steroids. He uses a sforzando to jolt the music, followed by softer, more anxious music that dances our way to a new key. The winds make a huge crescendo and we get the first theme hammered out in a fortissimo or as loudly as possible dynamic. Beethoven is kept us waiting for minutes for this moment and he makes the most of it.
