A Little Putch on Your Tuckus?

The German word potch P-A-T-S-C-H means a slap and it's probably on a monopoetic. It came to be used in German to refer to an attempt to overthrow a government or an armed insurrection. In Spanish the word for that kind of thing is, is gulpé, a striking. And so a putch is a strike against a government and the related word potch in German means slap which has been adopted into dialectal English as putch.
