Mill explains in various ways why domination is contrary to individual happiness. But they cannot be reduced to interference, he says. There are reasons for ther reasons that domination conflicts with, violates, undermines the happiness of the individual. For example, if a despot holds all political control and authority, whle those branches off the tree of happiness are snapped off? No, it it diminishes the extent to which one can develop one's nature. And thus you are, to that extent, diminished in your flourishing.
