The Soviet Response to Korean Airlines 007.
Korean Airlines 007 was shot down off the coast of Sockling Island by a Soviet Air Defense Force Su 15 Sukhoi 15 fighter and all 269 people on board were killed. The RC-135 aircraft which is a modified Boeing 707 not a 747 but a 707, was there that night to collect telemetry on a planned Soviet ICBM launch - it never happened. A retired four star admiral who was was a fighter pilot at that time said he did remember one morning launching from the carrier and they were approaching the Kural Island chain with mock bombing runs.
