A new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that obese children 12 years and up be offered medication for weight loss. This would be in addition to better nutrition, exercise, and sometimes even counseling. The report added that severely obese teenagers, 13 and older, should be offered referrals to be evaluated for metabolic and bariatric surgery. According to the CDC, one in five children and adolescents are obese.
