The History of Zoot Suits in the United States

Zoot suits grew out of jazz culture in African-American communities and other parts of the U.S. Among Mexican-Americans, zoot suits were one part of a counterculture movement known as Pachiko. Zoot suits became popular among minority communities all across the United States.
