Hip hop in America started off as a bit of a cultural movement. And I think the UK, maybe in the early years, tried to emulate that. They didn't have the same lived experience. But when I was going through secondary school, it's like 2010 times. I started to see a lot of British rappers start talking about where they're from in their own style,. using their own language and slang. That's when it felt like, from my perspective anyway, it started to build a lot more of its own identity. And that's when it started to go massive, really.
