The Importance of External Thoughts in Movies

The problem with the movies is you don't get to get in their heads unless you have one of those weird movies where you get to hear someone's thoughts so filmmakers have to find ways to manifest interior thoughts through exterior actions. The only reason Indiana Jones closes his eyes when they're getting ready to open the Ark of the Covenant is because he suddenly has stopped thinking about it as an archaeological artifact and something of religious power. That's the only reason he closes his eyes he doesn't believe in God in the beginning of the movie absolutely does not cause a hocus pocus and nonsense at the end of the film.
