Reggae grew out of SCA and a subsequent style called Rock Steady. But Reggae quickly surpassed both as the country's single most popular musical form. It became increasingly about cultural pride and then ultimately an assertion of political autonomy over their own cultural forms. And they wanted things that were created at home and that reflected the Jamaican reality.
