The Role of Dice in War Poetry

Ludo seems like a pretty innocuous pastime but the role in dice, it just makes me think of the scary randomness of war. The light cuts their arms off at the wrist, only the dice lives. So the metaphor could be made literal by war. Not only these men but poetry itself if you like could be mangled by horrible reality as a beautiful metaphor becomes just raw meat.
