Is There Something Too Earnest About Personal Growth?
Brits have an innate reaction to laugh at themselves, says the writer. We need that level of seriousness if we really want to change our personality structures. Personal growth culture here has not taken off in the same way because there's something a little bit too earnest about it in many ways. And i think part of my experience, actually, like writing that column for years for the guardian was, i definitely began thinking that the purpose of this was going to be that i was going to mainly poke fun at absurdity in this space.
