Document Duplication in the Ancient World

Document duplication has been with us a very long time. But the ancient greeks did not think about written documents and copying exactly the same way we do. Documents were sometimes treated as iconic or material symbols, more so than as a reference tool. In athens, you could argue this was a time of transition from a primarily oral culture to an increasingly document conscious culture.
