What Happened to the Potano?
In 16 56, the potano joined into a massive timuca revolt. Many different timuquin tribes across florida that had accepted some sort of unequal partnership with spain now tried to throw off the spanish yoke and end the repartimiento. But the spanish were able to suppress the revolt, and it failed. And they then took advantage of the situation by moving people again to selected mission sites along the camino royal. This didn't work for very long because all this violence, disruption and repeated disease epidemics just further reduced the timukin population until they just didn't have the power any more.
