The ghost reportedly helped a group of border crossers that had been separated from their smuggler. It could be that the groups he told to stop and wait for the border patrol could have faced other dangers, because this is a dangerous activity. Or it could be that he was setting them up for better outcomes in life, further in the future if they didn't cross on that particular night.
