One way you can lighten your impact and still go to destinations that are more popular, is to not go when everybody else is going. Travel during the shoulder season. Try to distribute that impact over different seasons instead of having it all concentrated at one time. Sarah says she always feels like if i'm going to be walking or running, that i should be doing it outside. She also does audio books because they make her feel better about herself.
