All of the victims suffered severe head injuries from a blunt object which was considered as the cause of death outright. Yosef, shattered skull, his cot had been smashed by a severe blow breaking it where it stood. Marie, right side of her face and skull had been smashed. Doctors surmised that she had probably died two to three hours after the incident and was the only one of the victims that had had any chance of being saved after the attack. A 100,000 mark reward was advertised for information regarding the murderer which rose quickly to 500,000 marks.
