The biggest danger comes in the fact that once a company is become more established, the d and a of doing new things tends to go away. More established companies who have already distructed the market to their advantage tend to only offer incremental improvements or sustaining innovations. But sustaining innovations actually don't create net growth, nor do they create jobs. They have a roll, but they don't create growth or jobs. The other mistake for start ups that get into network effects is a lot more obvious how to build a product that has no network at all. It's pretty clear how to get to product market fit when you're just building this kind of like widget.
