The Image of the Fiery Furnace Is Also Used in the Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 22, Verses 17 22
In ezekiel, chapter 22, verses 17 22, the image of a furnace is also used of the house of israel. The lord there speaks of purging away the dross of a nation that has become thoroughly corrupt. Later jewish midrash of genesis would use this image of the fiery furnace to apply it to the story of abraham being rescued from nimrod.
