Songs of Subversion on Your Journey

When i was a kid, i read something by frederick douglas about the negro spirituals. He said what he heard in his own people in these songs, is that every tone was a testimony against slavery and a prayer to god for deliverance. And they could sing these songs in the presence of those who meant and caused them danger, but they could speak to each other. For me, i came to know that as an incredibly subversive way of gaging the faith. These songs prioritized are bodies and our physical well being and our freedom. You know, wherever i am, i am singing those songs.
