The Rise and Fall of Order
There is a sense that we might be at a turning point in terms of global order. Can you talk a bit about how you see orders coming and going? Because I think one of the interesting things that you argue is that it's often not rivalries between competing powers which destroy orders but there are other kind of forces that often see the end of order. Yes. In the history that I've reconstructed from the 13th century to the 17th century, I mean, what I don't see really is nation states or great houses. They fragment due to what I call structural crises that create disorder.
